Rickie Lambert's penalty conversion three minutes from time saved a game that they would have been unlucky to lose. Fulham had taken the lead within the first ten minutes through Berbatov, who had pounced on a loose ball after Kelvin Davis had only managed to push away a cross.

Once again Saints were missing the drive of their captain, Adam Lallana, but even so after the shock of the Berbatov goal, Saints settled down and there were chances for Puncheon and Lambert. Both came close to equalising and there were also chances for Jack Cork and Davis, who headed wide.

Berbatov who was very impressive in the first quarter of an hour, seemed to lose interest and his decline coincided with the impressive Morgan Schneiderlin taking the game by the scruff of the neck, in what must be one of his best games for Saints.

However, it wasn't until Ramírez was switched to the centre on about the 60 minute mark that Saints really dominated (Why does Nigel play him anywhere else?).

Gastón is only now starting to show what he can do, after the dead leg injury that left him hospitalised for two nights and the subsequent recuperation. His interplay with Puncheon on a couple of occasions was wonderful to watch.
The problem with Saints now is that, although they have only conceded four goals in the last five games, they have seen the goals almost dry up. The balance is clearly not quite right yet.

Finally, the pressure told with less than five minutes to go and a Ramírez corner was handled by ex-Saint, Chris Baird and Rickie made little fuss about dispatching the resultant penalty.

Rather than go for the win, Saints seemed to show some indecision and indeed Fulham had opportunities to grab the win during those last few minutes.

After the match Nigel Adkins said:

"Any point picked up in the Premier League is an important one especially after going behind and we put the ball in good areas.

We tried to get in good areas and go home with something. If you look at the second half I think we've had a good amount of possession, a few opportunities.

We have good character in the team and good resolve, playing football in the right manner. We came with the mind-set of getting three points today and Kelvin Davis was very quiet in the second half and we looked like the team who would get anything."
