Match Report :

The final whistle in this game was one of those seminal moments, when you begin to believe that promotion is a probability, rather than a possibility.

The game was about two people, Rickie Lambert scoring again and Kelvin Davis, who had an extraordinary game in the Saints goal. Well, alright there was a stellar performance from Morgan Schneiderlin as well, but Lambert and particularly Davis grabbed the headlines.

The team was without Lallana, who Adkins says will be fit for the game on tuesday night against Ipswich. Into his place came Jason Puncheon. Richardson was back in place of Butterfield at right back.

Leeds had their new manager on show, the vastly experienced Neil Warnock. The one thing you know about Warnock's teams is that they are going to be in your face for the entire 90 minutes. And this Leeds team were exactly that.

Saints cause was not helped by below par performances by a couple of players, but you cannot expect that every player will be completely on top of their game. What Saints have got in spadefuls though is a togetherness that helps them cope with that sort of thing. There has never been a better example of that than the Leeds game. Virtually the whole game was spent back-pedalling and keeping the ball out of the Saints net.

The one time Saints broke out there was a lovely piece of play which ended with Tadanari Lee nodding the ball down for Rickie Lambert to lash into the Leeds net. That's how you finish! Leeds players spent the rest of the game unsuccessfully trying to emulate Lambert.

At the end of the game Davis was mobbed by the rest of the Saints team. That showed just what this result meant to the team. Adkins looked happy and Warnock was ... the same as always. Moaning. Mind you, just this once I could understand.

Jos Hooiveld put it best in a Tweet after the game, and I quote "The whole of Leeds police force is looking for our bus.. Probably because there are three stolen points in it! Hahaha #lovethempoints"

I couldn't have put it better myself.

As for Nigel Adkins, he was looking ahead "We know March is going to be a hell of a lot of games of football. We have arrived in the situation knowing that you've got to have a strong squad of players to deal with exactly the situations that arising now and I believe that we've got good players and we will remain strong."
