Saints Development Squads

So far, the coverage on the Saints youngsters has amounted to a few brief mentions in the News Forum and that hardly gives us much to go on when one of them inevitably breaks through into the first team.

IBO Forum regular shirleymush ran the rule over the four players from the Academy whom the club announced in May 2012 would be joining the first team squad for pre-season training. He has the advantage over me, in that he has actually seen them playing in the FA Youth Cup Games, so I was pleased when he offered to give us his opinion of the players to watch out for.

To follow up, I had a look at the two to graduate in 2013 and who were asked along to the Saints Training camp in Spain.

I am in the process of trying to cover the period from 2014 up to the end of Ronald Koeman's managerial reign in 2016. Let's face it, for all his plus points, he was reluctant to have anything to do with the Saints youngsters, which has been shown to be misguided as James Ward-Prowse made his long awaited breakthrough into the first team under Claude Puel during the 2016-17 season.

Who knows, we may get around to covering a few more some time soon.

So, click on the buttons to read more about the 2012 and 2013 graduates and compare with how they have fared since then.
