Luke Shaw

An area close to most Saints fans hearts is the Academy. You shouldn't need me to list all the players that have come through there, but I suppose you have to look no further than Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at Arsenal and Gareth Bale at Real Madrid. In each case I remember their debuts and they were clearly a cut above others around them, right from the word go.

Yet another is Luke Shaw (seen on the left warming up for the first home game of the 2013/14 season), who seemed right at home from the first moment he set foot on the pitch as a starter. He made the left back slot his own and it wasn’t long before the big clubs came calling. A £30M transfer to Manchester United duly followed at the end of the season. It seems odd to look at an article in this section from IBO forum regular, shirleymush, where he ran the rule over four of the Academy youngsters and said that 'it could be a while yet before he starts for Saints'. I think it would be fair to say that Shaw exceeded expectations, at least until he got to Manchester United!.

Another mentioned in that article is James Ward-Prowse and he has appeared in the First Team on an irregular basis, often from the bench. He is looking more and more impressive with every outing. I am sure that he will eventually be a regular, but that is the thing with youngsters, you can never predict their rate of development.

The intention is to gradually expand this section to include a bit more about some of the youngsters, so when they make an appearance in the first team, it is not so much a case of 'Who?'

Firstly, have a look at the Development Squad section, by clicking on the button below and see what we thought about last seasons quartet who were promoted to the first team squad.

Saints on Twitter

Saints on Twitter

This section of the IBO site will enable you to read various Twitter feeds relating to Saints.

These vary from the official SouthamptonFC feed, to a few of the players, the current #saintsfc timeline and even my occasional contributions.

The good thing about Twitter is that if there is something going on at Saints, you can often find out the facts first on one, or other of these feeds.

So, think of this section as the up to the minute 'News on Saints' resource.

This section contains those Saints related sections that will not clearly fit under any of the other sections. Amongst other things there is the Twitter page, which carries several feeds related to Saints, ranging from the official club feed, to some of the players.

There is the information page about Saints Disabled Supporters Association and the young players to watch section, covering the U18's & U21's, althought this bit is in need of an overhaul and update.
