It was that sort of day...
Manager: Will Still
Manager: Mark Robins
|After the unholy early start for the Wrexham match, we were back to a 3 pm KO time on a Saturday. Proper football. A return also to our restaurant of choice in the city. Despite all the efforts of the club to ensnare you into spending more time and money at the ground, we have managed to resist so far.
We enjoyed our leisurely lunch, and as we were paying and preparing to leave, we got into a conversation with the young waitress about football. It turns out that she was a university physiotherapy student, just about to start her third year and frequently gets involved in work for Saints, including coming down to assist in the pre-season assessment of the players. The conversation was going well until she unwisely let slip that her father and brother were lifelong ManU fans, which meant that by default, she was as well...
So, to the ground after digesting the team news, we know that Saints are in a sort of holding pattern until the Summer transfer window starts to shake out as we approach the end, and this might be the last time for us to see Fernandes in Saints colours. We have rapidly got used to the idea that Still is the complete antithesis of Russell Martin and does not get fixated with formations. He changes formations continually during a game, so how the starters line up is just the beginning. I love it.
The game itself knocked out all of this optimistic nonsense...
