The record books will show that Wolves won this game with goals from Batth (67 minutes) and Wilson (87 minutes), but that doesn't begin to show how utterly abject Saints were. No fight, little skill and more than a little dis-interest. Which would not necessarily have been so bad, but for the fact that this was the competition that Saints did so well at last year, coming within a few minutes of glory at Wembley.
I got the distinct feeling that nobody on the Saints side had any interest whatsoever in this match. Yes, Mauricio Pellegrino did try some different things, but none of it began to address the fundamental flaws in the team - namely the forwards feeding off scraps and Forster being left without any meaningful cover from his defenders.
Frankly this was yet another example of a Saints match where they could not be bothered and in turn, I cannot be bothered to report on it.
